Together, We Are Saving Lives!
The Josh the Otter Water Safety and Awareness Project combines literacy and education to teach children and their parents life-saving water safety methods in an effort to reduce the risk of drowning. Drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death in children between the ages of 1 through 14 in the United States alone.
Through Josh the Otter book reading programs, children are taught the most basic and retainable lesson – to stay away from water if an adult isn’t present. It is this simple message that saves lives. We have distributed more than 500,000 books, and this is just the beginning!

Our Story:
The Josh the Otter program derived out of a tragedy experienced by the parents of the late Joshua Collingsworth, who drowned during a family get together at their home over ten years ago. Hoping to turn the tragedy into a teachable moment despite their unbearable loss, Blake and Kathy Collingsworth started the Josh the Otter Water Safety and Awareness Project and JCMF Children’s Charities Foundation. The mission is to educate children and adults worldwide about water safety through the utilization of drowning prevention campaigns and early childhood water safety training.
